Research Interests:
I am primarily interested in the linguistic traditions of India and how they developed in relation to larger literary, social, and philosophical contexts over the course of time. Under 'linguistic traditions' I understand those fields that are concerned with the theorization of language at all levels including grammar (vyākaraṇa), metrics (chandas), poetics (alaṅkāraśāstra), and philosophy of language. I mostly work with Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, and Prakrit. Other areas of interest are the history of Indology and the colonial rule of India.
